Ok, for the lost little while, I have been searching around the internet, trying to find the meaning of the song Viva La Vida by Coldplay. I have looked at a few sites that were guessing at it, and everyone seems to be coming up with different answers. So I checked out Wikipedia, and there was something Chris Martin (the lead singer) had quoted to a magazine, and I think I have figured it out... He said that the line "I know St. Peter won't call my name" refers to going to heaven. Before you get in, St. Peter has to call your name. When Chris was young, he said he made some bad choices, so I think that's what that is referring to. In the first stanza, he sings:
I used to rule the world,
Seas would rise when I gave the word.
Now in the morning I sleep along,
I sweep the streets I used to own.
My guess for the meaning of this part is that he used to be bad, and "rule the world". Then something happened, and he realized that acting like that was getting him nowhere, and now he "sweeps the streets [he] used to own". The rest of the song is pretty much giving the same message. That is just my idea of the meaning behind it... I may be way off, so if you have any other opinions about it, please feel free to tell me!

Wow that's really interesting! I never ever thought that was what it meant... I think I looked it up awhile ago (when I first heard it) and it said something like the song was about Jesus... and kind of His story. So I don't really know... but it's still a good song :)
That is so cool. I have always wondered the meaning
I had read about the one about Jesus, and that could be it too, but some of the parts I didn't think fit that well... Like when he says "sweep the streets I used to own", people persecuted him, but he always was the king in away. I think the song may be comparing his life to Jesus's life, but I'm not sure... I was just posting some thoughts on the subject! ;)
Yeah I was thinking about that after I posted the comment yesterday... because it makes more sense from what the songwriter/singer or w/e was saying about it.
I agree with both sides. It could mean either thing. But anyways I think that Viva la Vida is a really cool song! I just learned how to play it on the piano and I love it!
